Race Results for the week

It's been another full week of racing for the members of Spalding Cycling Club. On Wednesday evening 11 riders from Spalding lined up for round two of the Hereward Time Trial League at Bourne. The Hilly 11.7 mile course made the riders work hard. The overall winner was 17 year old Alister Slater from Bourne Wheelers who finished in an impressive 27.50. In second place was Spalding rider Adam Ellis in a time of 28.10. Other Spalding riders finished with the following times. Derek Chamberlain 32.46, Shane Norton 33.00, Andy Pack 34.07, Harry Bellars 36.19, Gary Bentley 36.22, Sarah Bentely 38.18, Sam Bentely 38.39, Julia Scott 39.39, Richard Merrill 41.06, Alan Stacy 44.00.

On Saturday four riders headed over to Hertfordshire for a round of the National 800m and National Endurance grass track league. 2 of the young Go-ride members Matt Ellis and Jake Norton rode extremely well, with Matt finishing 3rd and Jake finishing 5th in the all day omnium event for Under 16's. In the 400m handicap event the young Spalding duo took 1st and 2nd place ahead of an impressive field of riders.

In the Senior event Adam Ellis took 4th place in the final of the National 800m event. Something of a surprise for Adam who is used to riding long distance road races and time trial events. Adam also finished 4th in the 800m Handicap event final and 10th in the 8km event. Shane Norton new to grass track racing finished 3rd in the 800m qualifing event, and 4th in the 800m handicap.

Also on Saturday 15 year old Tom Neale headed over to Darley Moore race circuit for an East Mids Road Race. Tom had a good race finishing an impressive 5th place.

On Sunday Adam Ellis headed over to Peterborough for the annual Peterborough Road Race at Sawtry. With horrendous condition facing the 120 strong field, Adam lasted 30 miles of the 60mile race before pulling out due to suffering from the extreme wet and cold condition.

Spalding young Go-ride members will be meeting this Saturday at 11am on the Castle Sports Field, so if you fancy having ago at Cycle racing, pop down for a free introduction session. Also watch out for a full programme of cycling activities for under 16's in the SHDC summer sports tours.
