MILTON KEYNES 3

7 riders from Spalding Cycling Club made the trip over to Milton Keynes for the final round of the Milton Keynes early season Road Races.

Adam Ellis was first to race in the seniors event. Adam rode well attacking from the start however unfortunately he missed the winning break which went away early. Adam then worked hard at the front of the chasing group to bring back the leaders. With one lap to go Adam rode away from the group to establish a small gap only to be caught before the line by the charging peleton.

Son Matt Ellis was the next Spalding rider to race in the under 10’s event. Matt maintained contact with his group and looked like he was struggling then with 3 laps to go, he upped  the pace to take a very respectable 2nd place.

Next off was Reece Moradkhan in the Under 12’s. Reece managed to stay with the group for the first few laps however dropped off from the leaders with 8 laps to go. Reece continued to battle hard with the chasing riders to finish in 10th place.

Harry Bellars and Sam Bentely lined up for the Under 14’s. Harry and Sam worked hard in the group for the first few laps. A break went early on in the race which unfortunately Harry and Sam both missed. Both riders battle hard to chase the leaders, Harry finished a respectable 4th. This was Sam first race of the season and his first race in the very competitive Under 14’s, so finishing 5th was a fantastic result.

The highlight of the days racing was the Under 16’s. With many riders looking to impress talent team selectors this was always going to be a frantic race. Two riders from Spalding took part, Tom Neale and Alex Avery. The race started with attacks from the gun with riders sprinting off to gain the lead. The first 3 laps saw some of the most aggressive riding all day and with a relentless pace many riders dropped off the lead group. Alex and Tom remained with the leaders the whole race and attacked on the hill on a few occasions. With 3 laps to go it was inevitable that the race would end in a bunch sprint to the top of the finishing hill. The final sprint was fast and manic with Alex Avery just missing out on a podium finish by a bikes length to finish in 6th place. Tom also contested the sprint to finish in 12th place.

Next week the Spalding youth riders will be lining up for the first round of the National Youth Road Race series at Lincoln.
